My Self Portrait: A Winged Human Being
sketched myself in pencil and charcoal.
with wings to represent freedom
freedom do live, to dance, to create
but freedom has its consequences
and the wings did not come with a compass
never again will be lost
never again will be put in shackles
because we are all angels
always free to ride with the wind
with broken wings will fly once more
struggling with pain, hurt, and sorrow
in time will be healed
but will forever soar with a wounded heart
then the winged human being became one's surreal painter
by the one who climbs walls and turns imagination into creation
then its grand artwork turned more vivid, beautiful and warm
now in my art, feel the warmth die out
witness the vivid colors turn dull
as the angel turns to a demigod
one that's been born out of pain
As I free myself within
taste the sweet turn bitter
because the angel is a martyr no more
friends or freedom, the issue is to choose;
reaching great heights with my limits
between limiting mine with theirs
shackles or chains, friends are not
and to understand fully, one must depart
now in my art, feel the sun shine
see the life, see the color
with skin and cheeks reddened by the bright sky
looking back as i perch in this seat
